The West End’s massive independent theatre, Shaftesbury Theatre, has announced it is upgrading its hospitality facilities with the launch of a new events space.

The new space, named ‘The 1911’, aims to support the theatre to host events such as conferences, social gatherings, seminars, and product launches, including daytime events in the theatre itself and all types of productions.

1911 can host from 50-225 people for breakfast, meetings, briefings, and receptions.

Gary England, the commercial director, of Shaftesbury Theatre, said: “Shaftesbury Theatre has been at the heart of the local community for more than a century, and with the launch of 1911 we are delighted to be able to offer the theatre to a much wider meetings and events audience.”

1911 is the newest in a series of major works which have been undertaken at the Grade II listed building.

This involves the development of second private hospitality space, Taffner Suite, the installation of a cutting-edge air conditioning system created to reduce energy costs, the fitting of a lift which enables people with mobility issues to access the stalls, and the addition of thirteen spaces for wheelchairs in the theatre’s auditorium.

Upcoming redevelopment work to Princes Circus, as part of Camden Council’s West End Project to the west and north of the Theatre, is expected to offer further opportunities for expansion, involving the creation of an outdoor food counter with a designated seating area.
