Through our close relationships with the UK’s leading sustainable venues, we at The Venue Booker can help you to put on an inspiring event!

Green values

When you care about the environment, it’s good to know that there is a wealth of sustainable event spaces. These venues have been independently audited. For most event professionals, ISO 20121 is now standard. This sustainability certificate is recognised by the events industry around the world. London alone has 122 hotels, venues and conference centres in the Green Tourism Scheme.

Eco-friendly venues

Venues are always looking for new ways to cut their carbon emissions and be more environmentally friendly. Many have put in place things like paperless offices, eco-friendly lighting, natural ventilation and using local suppliers. Other ideas include reducing food and drink packaging and planting trees. To learn how green a venue is, ask for its Display Energy Certificate rating.

Pollution-cutting transport

Delegate travel is the biggest part of an event’s carbon footprint. Thankfully, London’s public transport system offers endless opportunities for greener travel. For starters, you can save on air miles and arrive in London on the high-speed rail network, Eurostar. A Eurostar journey emits 80% less carbon than a similar short-haul flight. With frequent services from Paris and Brussels, the journey takes just over two hours. Once in London, delegates can use electric and hydrogen-powered buses, walk, cycle, or use the Tube and rail services.

Manchester has Metrolink: A tram system that emits no local air pollution and is more fuel efficient than cars or buses.

It also has the Bee Network: An integrated network that supports low car lifestyles.

Birmingham has Birmingham Transport Plan 2031: A plan to reduce the environmental impact of transport and make Birmingham a carbon neutral city by 2030. The plan also aims to reduce road danger, connect people to job and training opportunities, and revitalize the city centre

Supporting green enterprise

With its Green Enterprise District, London is a world leader in low-carbon energy. The London Green Fund is another scheme to boost our low-carbon economy. It offers financial incentives to eco-friendly businesses and works with London business to reduce their carbon emissions.

Bee Net Zero is a partnership that provides advice and support to help businesses in Greater Manchester become more sustainable and save money on energy bills.

This plan outlines a set of principles to guide investment in transport, with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of transport and making Birmingham a carbon neutral city by 2030

Here are some leading sustainable venues that we regularly work with;

Travel with Purpose is Hilton’s corporate responsibility strategy to redefine and proceed sustainable travel and tourism globally. Everyday they strive to make the world a better place, driving positive social and environmental change across our operations, their supply chain and within their communities. Being responsible, social, and environmental stewards is built-in their culture; it is who they are and what they always wanted to be.

Supporting their Local Community

Team members volunteer at The Dragon Café, a local mental health charity. Annually the team raise money for McMillian Cancer Drive for St Mugo’s a homeless charity. The team volunteered time for community planting for Better Bankside. The hotel has supported the Blackfriars settlement fund by provided home cooked meals for vulnerable people during lockdown.

Events taking place at EICC impart knowledge, build relationships, and inspire ideas that change the world. However, we recognise that there are also inherent adverse impacts to running events. They consider it both a moral and a business imperative to place sustainability at the heart of every event they host, at every step of the process.

The sustainability programme, Step Change, focuses on three equally significant interconnected areas of impact: environmental, societal and economic. They have a series of initiatives which address these spheres of impact so that clients can be assured that their events will demonstrate best practice in sustainability without compromising on the standards of excellence for which events at the EICC are renowned.

EICC have an excellent track record in waste management, with zero waste from the venue being sent to landfill. Since 2013 the EICC has reduced it’s carbon emissions by 55%.

Lancaster London has many initiatives to minimise the impact they have on the environment, including weekly monitoring of the hotel’s energy use and achieving zero landfill waste. One of the most interesting eco-friendly activities they run is a rooftop honey farm to support the urban bee population. The honey produced has been used by the chefs at their restaurants and also given to guests as gifts.
