EVENTIT, Scotland’s trade show for MICE industry, has announced the efforts it has gone through to meet its sustainability goals.
The trade show takes place on 13th September at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), the event will welcome more than 65 event suppliers including ICC Belfast, Butlin’s Conference & Events, Eventsforce, Vii, Geronimo Sailing and Visit Inverness Loch Ness.
Partnering up
The main theme of this year’s event is sustainability, which has resulted in various partnerships to help the show become more sustainable.
The host venue, EICC, has recently partnered with RSPB Scotland, the UK’s largest nature conservation charity, to support peatland restoration in Scotland.
The partnerships, which are part of EICCC pledge to diminish the operation impact associated with holding large events, will see £1 for every conference delegate, and 50p for every dinner guest’s attendee, donated RSPB Scotland.
EICC will also offer EVENTIT with an ‘Impact Report’ explaining its CO2 emissions, to see if there has been an improvement in 2021 and to help the team plan for future improvements.
In addition, Event Cycle, a company which takes unwanted event waste and give it a second life, will work with the show to reduce waste.
Other measures
All exhibitors have been asked to use reusable and/or recyclable materials, to use QR codes instead of printed leaflets and not to offer delegate giveaways as another way to reduce waste.
EVENTIT has also committed to using water dispensers as an alternative to plastic bottles, encouraging delegates to bring their own reusable bottles.
Judith Wilson, events director at EVENTIT, said: “The best way for the events industry to move forward in the right way is for it to become a much more sustainable industry. Events can often cause a lot of unnecessary waste, and we want to help the industry understand ways to target this and become more sustainable.
“What better time to show how events can become more sustainable than at a showcase attended by people from all over the UK and beyond, who can put these sustainability methods into practice.”
