As a venue, the management team are committed to making constant improvements to our environmental performance.
We have already put together several measures and are continuously looking for new ways to improve. When purchasing new equipment, we’re mindful to ensure energy saving and re-usable elements within all associated products. Congress Centre currently carries out the following initiatives:
Recycling
This is extremely important, and we recognise the need to recycle materials wherever possible. We are now using 100% recycled paper throughout all offices within our building.
The venue and internal offices have reduced their waste from 5 bins to 3 bins each day, and we’re looking to reduce this even further. Congress Centre use recycled note pads, pencils, coasters, flipchart paper and pens for all meetings.
Energy Use
We recognise the simple but powerful impact of using energy saving bulbs and have introduced this to all appropriate areas in the building.
Suppliers
We work with our suppliers to ensure that they’re always working to recognise and reduce the environmental impact of their products, packaging and transportation.
Catering
Congress Centre promotes the use of locally sourced products for our events through our suppliers. We are working towards removing all single-use plastics from our catering and conference spaces.
Access for disabled people.
Congress Conference Centre treats the needs of disabled delegates and speakers with great importance.
The conference venue retains a consultancy to conduct regular assessments and advice on disability issues and regulations to ensure it meets standards.
Facilities for disabled people include:
Raised step treads outside the building to assist blind and partially sighted delegates, with entrance ramps for wheelchair users.
All lifts accommodate standard wheelchairs and have low-level buttons and voice over.
Door Access Dimensions, Height 2.1 metres, Width 0.7 metres.
Internal Dimensions, Height to light 2.1 metres, Width 1metre.
Length Door to back 1.2 metres.
Congress Hall has an entrance ramp for wheelchair users and there is a further ramp onto the stage allowing speakers easy access to the podium.
All doorways are wide enough to accommodate standard wheelchairs.
Accessible toilets are located on the lower ground floor by the cloakroom and registration area which is conveniently beside Congress Hall, foyer and the Congress Suites.
A further accessible toilet is located on the fifth floor.
Most conference rooms benefit from a hearing loop system; Congress Hall has an infra-red hearing loop.
We use what3words to make our venue more accessible. The exact entrance to the Congress Centre can be found at ///mimic.easy.winter.

Jenny and The Venue Booker have provided exemplary service to us over the years.
Saida Basheer, University of Leeds
I'd be pleased to recommend Jenny, The Venue Booker. I knew our request was going to be a tall order but she rose to the challenge, negotiated some cracking rates and retained her patience and professionalism despite some spectacular dithering at our end!
Kelly Austin, Expedition & Wilderness Medicine
Thank you so much Jenny, you are fantastic and I am grateful for your help.
Mirela Sula, Global Woman
The Venue Booker provided us with a fantastic selection of venues to view for the two events we enquired about – each of these met our brief, several offered something really special and most of them came with discounted rates that we would not have been able to achieve on our own. The service is free of charge and Jenny is friendly and helpful. We will definitely use them again.
Rachel Bailey, Clement
