Snoozebox launches portable hotel

The new, redesigned Snoozebox portable hotel was officially unveiled in London, 27 November. The microhotel will start to be rolled out to major UK and international events next year, from the Grand Prix to Glastonbury. In 2013, over 32,000 guests stayed with Snoozebox. Snoozebox combines temporary hotel accommodation with all the mod cons and amenities of a hotel, including free Wi-Fi to air conditioning. Snoozebox was conceived four years ago as an alternative to conventional accommodation for festivals, sports events and special occasions. The improved design will be rolled out at events in 2015.   Each room has four bunk beds cleverly stowed within the interior space which can be converted to accommodate four singles, or a double and two singles or one kingsize bed. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with a toilet, basin and shower. During the day, the rooms convert to a living room with storage space.   Design firm Tangerine and logistic and deployment experts Procar International also worked on the project.   The designers say Snoozebox will work well for those who simply want a comfortable base, but intend to be out all day at a sports event, festival or special occasion. The lure of life under canvas or in a yurt appears to have waned, and the standard of shower and toilet blocks at many events often leaves much to be desired. The UK Festival Census 2013 revealed 26 per cent of festival-goers missed the creature comforts of home, 26 per cent wanted a flushing toilet and 15 per cent wanted a warm shower. Lorcan O Murchu, CEO of Snoozebox, says: ‘Snoozebox is about bringing an innovative new concept to the hotel market. We put our guests right at the heart of the action, making their event experience bigger, deeper and longer. The Snoozebox Club is becoming quite the vibrant community of event enthusiasts.” In 2015, Snoozebox will be based at a host of UK events including the Isle of Man TT, Edinburgh Festival and the Rugby World Cup.   Snoozebox rooms can cost from £99 per night to stay in Edinburgh during the Festival, to £1,599 for two people for four nights with breakfast and dinner each day for the British Grand Prix.
