The Belfry Hotel and Resort,  a sustainable venue, have proclaimed plans to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030, they have already saved 3m kWh of energy merged across electricity and gas in 2022 when comparing its usage with 2019.

The energy savings were the result of various measures implemented by the resort. In 2022, The Belfry installed 187 ‘Genius Hubs’ in bedrooms which had a huge impact as it helped to achieve a 64% reduction in heat energy usage.

The devices are smart heating control solutions that decrease a property’s energy consumption by only heating specific parts of the building that are being used, with the bonus of offering guests greater control over their room climate.

Sustainability additions

The other sustainability additions in progress at The Belfry include:

• A water management system that filters waste water that then goes to the resort’s reservoirs, and lakes or is sprayed onto the golf courses.

•  The production of turf nurseries, which nourish up to 100sqft of new turf using site-grown produce.

• 80% of the resort’s lighting to LED, with many of the areas now lit by motion sensor lights.

• Focusing on wildlife enrichment areas; and the use of biodegradable resources for marketing or promotional products and banners.

• A team of nominated in-house ESG champions. The ESG Champions include employees from all their departments who will meet monthly to review, agree, and discuss projects and actions that can help minimise the impact the business has on the planet.

The results we have seen in the past 12 months demonstrate our determination to realise our target and we are excited to continue that momentum.”
